Our Mission

Purpose

The objective and mission of the Society shall be to:

  • Improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with functional neurological disorder; to operate exclusively for scientific, scholarly and educational purposes
  • Advance medical science pertaining to functional neurological disorder
  • Encourage research; to provide forums, such as medical journals, scientific symposia and International Congresses
  • Increase awareness among heathcare workers and the public about functional neurological disorder
  • Share ideas and to advance the related clinical and scientific disciplines
  • Encourage interest and participation in the activities of the Society among healthcare and allied professionals and scientists
  • Collaborate with other related professional and lay organizations

Mission and Goals

The Functional Neurological Disorder Society is a professional society of clinicians, scientists, other healthcare professionals, students, and members of the lay public who are interested in functional neurological disorder

  1. To disseminate knowledge about functional neurological disorder by:
    1. Providing educational programs for clinicians, scientists and the general public designed to advance scientific and clinical knowledge about this disorder
    2. Sponsoring International Congresses and Symposia
    3. Collaborating with other international organizations and lay groups
    4. Publishing journals, videos, and other collateral materials committed to high scientific standards and peer review
  2. To promote research into causes, prevention and treatment of Functional Neurological Disorder by:
    1. Using the Society's influence and resources to enhance support for research
    2. Facilitating the dissemination of information about research
    3. Encouraging the training of basic and clinical scientists in functional neurological disorder
  3. For the purposes of favorably affecting the care of patients with Functional Neurological Disorder, the Society will provide expertise, advice and guidance to:
    1. Regulatory agencies to assist them in the approval process of safe and effective therapeutic interventions
    2. The public (media) and patient support groups by informing them of new research and therapeutic advances
    3. Governments to assist them in the development of policies that affect support of research and patient care
    4. Educational efforts to assist in developing standards of training in the specialty
